Methylene Chloride
These compounds are separated by distillation. Dichloromethane was prepared in 1839 for the first time by the French chemist Henry Victor Renault as he separated it from the mixture (chloromethane and chlorine) by exposing the mixture to sun (1810-1878).
Description
Dichloromethane or Methylene Chloride is a chemical compound that quickly evaporates to produce a toxic and non-flammable gas with a moderately strong smell. Its chemical formula is CH₂Cl₂. Dichloromethane can be produced by interacting chloromethane or methane with chlorine at a temperature of 400-500° C.
