Benzoate used as a plasticizing agent, dissolution assistant and solvent, and it is used in treating process.  Benzyl benzoate is a solubilizing agent and a non-water sweetener in injection preparations at concentrations ranging from (0.01 to 6%).

It is also a sweetener and colorant for cellulose and nitrocellulose, but its most common pharmaceutical use is as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of scabies.
