Quaternary Ammonium Chloride
The compound is used in organic synthesis as a methylating agent and in some cases as a precipitating agent. It is used in small concentrations in polymerase chain reaction to increase yield and quality as it has been shown to improve yield approximately 5-10-fold at 60 mm via AT base pair binding.
Description
Tetramethylammonium chloride is the simplest quaternary ammonium cation with four methyl groups connecting with central nitrogen atom. Its chemical formula is (CH3)4N+Cl-. The compound appears as a white and high-moisture crystalline substance.
